Our monthly Coach Walks programme and our walking holidays usually offer A, B and C level rambles
Our monthly Short Car Walks programme offers rambles of about 4 to 6 miles.
For these local walks we use our own or shared car transport, and often finish at or near a public house.
For the more adventurous walkers, the following are occasionally offered:
Leadership is encouraged with walks reconnoitred under guidance and also by occasional training courses on map, compass and GPS use. The club owns two GPS units.
WALK GRADES:
GENTLE – A walk on level ground along a well-surfaced route, taken at a leisurely pace. Boots not required.
EASY - A walk over level or slightly undulating ground with gentle gradients and good underfoot conditions.
MODERATE - A walk in a hilly area with a number of undulations involving individual climbs of up to 500 feet and possibly with poor underfoot conditions. On A walks some hills may be steep and total ascent could be up to 1200 feet.
On B walks hills will be gradual with a total ascent of up to 800 feet.
DIFFICULT - A technically challenging walk generally in hilly or coastal areas, with aspects such as steep gullies to cross, rough moorland, rocky terrain (possibly involving some scrambling) or paths difficult to find. Total ascent up to 1500 feet.
STRENUOUS - A physically challenging walk in mountain country with several ascents of 500 to 2500 feet. May involve long or steep climbs (usually on rocky terrain) and exposed weather conditions. An estimate of total ascent will be included in the newsletter description.
